Family Weddings
My two children had planned their weddings within a month of each other. Then one day Rodney said that he and Lesley had decided to bring their date forward and asked how we felt about that. Lesley’s parents had planned to have the wedding in their beautiful garden in Silverstream, Wellington, but they were willing to forgo that and do whatever the bridal couple wanted. It seemed that they had discovered that the Minister who was to perform the wedding service would be away and a new young Minister would have to take his place. They had called to see this man and were not impressed, as he had recently completed his training and went through with them everything that he had learned in a way that they felt was condescending and unnecessary.

They had discussed this with Lesley’s parents. The outcome was that as Lesley was to be bridesmaid and Rodney was to be groomsman at Sylvia’s wedding, it would be nice for them to have their wedding service at the Auckland University Chapel which would be convenient for families and friends who would be attending both. So Rodney asked what did we think about it. I asked, "What date are you thinking of?”
Quite seriously Rodney replied, "What about the day after Sylvia’s wedding?"
I gasped and said laughingly, "Oh give me at least one day in between!"
And so it was. Sylvia was married on the Wednesday and Rodney on the Friday.

Sylvia and Lindsay’s wedding was a very social affair. She was working in Auckland as the Women’s Travel Advisor for Qantas Airways so had made many more friends through running fashion parades in Hotels and giving travel packing advice on TV and the like. So it was a big social occasion which we all enjoyed.

Fortunately Rod and Les wanted a happy but quiet wedding with no fuss. Les and her family arranged everything beautifully and we all had a very happy enjoyable day. They were such a happy couple and they still are. It’s a joy to be with them and any of their three children, April, Alexander and Pia. They lived twenty eight years in Australia, and now live in England.

After their wedding, they went to our bach on Waiheke Island for their honeymoon. On our way taking them to the ferry boat, I realised that there was very little food of any kind in the bach so we stopped at Hutchinsons Deli to get some cooked chickens and other food for them to take with them.

Unfortunately Sylvia’s marriage ended in divorce but she has one son Kimble who is loving and caring. He lives in Auckland so we have many enjoyable times with him.
Following the careers of my four grandchildren gives me great interest and joy.
